Today! Today I am posting this!
May. 5th, 2010 08:44 am(lieutenant colonel tell me about it, t-rex)
So here's me trying to get back on LJ. I know it's been forever, and I'm really sorry. I have been dealing with a lot of personal stuff that culminated in a couple of visits to urgent care and a few decisions about the future that will hopefully bear healthy fruit. So-- I'm trying to get back on LJ, yeah. Get back to writing. I'm always happiest when I'm writing.
Also, a little while back I got an e-mail from a nice lady asking if she could put up Slave Breakers on goodreads.com, which was a website of which I had not heard, and I answered and said yes, sure, thank you for the compliment of wanting to, and then I sort of forgot about it because I wasn't doing the online/maculategiraffe thing much. But then yesterday in my quest to actually climb back on the LJ horse, I was going through comments and there were a bunch of people who were all "hey, I just found you through goodreads" and so I was like "huh, I wonder what they said about me over there" so I went and looked and then I was all "oh gosh" because the thing is that on that website they discuss actual books, with like covers and bindings and editors and authors who get paid, and they are talking about my stuff like it is actual books. (Somebody actually formatted it to be read as an e-book-- three e-books actually, Bran and Jesse and Lee. I mean gosh.) And not only that, but they are talking about it like it is good books. All "I loved the characters!" and "why isn't this author in print!" and, um, other stuff that makes me blush.
I mean, you guys are all really sweet to me and build my self-confidence like crazy, but there is something about seeing my "books" up next to actual books, getting reviews and stars and stuff like on Amazon, from people who are not even talking to ME (because I mean of course people who take the trouble to talk to me about it are going to be the ones who like it-- you don't write to the author to be like "eh") but rather to other prospective readers, and some of them being like "This book rocked!" that just made me go whoa. I've been writing stories in my head since I was three and down on paper since I was eight (at least that's the date on the first written story I have of mine, which involved eight-year-old me punching a space alien and making him cry) and on the computer since I was twelve, and I make vague noises sometimes about how maybe I'll try to get some money for it sometime, but I have never really seriously thought "I have written a book." I just thought I had posted some stories online that a bunch of people unexpectedly liked a lot. But now... well... it seems a bit more feasible to maybe try and get some money for the book(s) what I have apparently written.
So that's something to think about.
But in the meantime, I need a game plan for getting back on Livejournal. I am a bit overwhelmed by how long I've been gone, so I need to take it a little bit at a time. I want to post it on here so you guys know what's up and so that I have incentive to stick to the plan instead of just throwing up my hands.
Today & tonight - Post this, friend back people who have friended me since the last time, reply to inbox messages, and sift through backlogged comments to reply to as many as possible (and try not to get overwhelmed and close the browser tab in a panic AGAIN). Edit Babysitter and Maiden for posting.
Thursday - Post the next chapter of Babysitter of Themyscira and work on The Maiden. Do more comment catching up.
Friday - Post the next chapter of The Maiden and reply to comments on Babysitter chapter (if any, heh). Do more comment catching up.
Saturday - Reply to comments (again, if any) on Maiden chapter and post the next one. Do more catching up.
Sunday - probably won't have time to get on LJ-- catch up some more on comments if possible.
Monday - Post next chapter of The Maiden. & obligatory comment catching up.
Tuesday - Comments and work on Maiden and Intake Counselor.
Wednesday - Post final chapter of The Maiden.
Thursday - Post next chapter of Intake Counselor.
After that we'll see.
Thank you so much to everyone who has said something nice to me while I was gone, whether it be about me personally or my work. I can't tell you what a lift it gives me. *squishes everyone*

Date: 2010-05-05 11:04 pm (UTC)There must be something in the air, though, because I made up my mind to just pick up with everything today and go forward from here, because there is no way in hell I'll catch up with months of journals.
Glad to hear you've got a plan, and really glad to hear you're getting the recognition you deserve as a writer.
