It always interests me when I get notes along the lines of "I want Lee to be my boy!" or "I want Holden to be my master!" So...

OK! So I'm putting up a second poll for community name, because there was very little consensus and there were some great write-ins in the comments and I personally suck at titling things so I want as much community feedback as possible on this. Technically, original_slavery is tied as the winner of the poll vote for community name with, um, macs_minions, but I'm pretty sure at least some of y'all were kidding about that last one. You know, like I was kidding when I put it in as an option. :P

I am not putting ALL the write-ins as options in this second (and hopefully final) poll, simply because I want to get this community created sometime this week. Orig_slavefic (suggested by [livejournal.com profile] morgan_cian) got a lot of support in the comments, and I also really like slave_fiction (suggested by [livejournal.com profile] shadowsonthesun, along with nonfan_slavefic and author_slavefic, but I like slave_fiction best). Alternatively, [livejournal.com profile] rose_in_texas' suggestion, chainfic, is a bit less "mundane." I also liked the suggestions of slavetolove ([livejournal.com profile] thirdsouthobbi) and oc_slavefic ([livejournal.com profile] nicky69), but am not putting either of them as options in the new poll, for the respective reasons that not all the slavery we write about may be loving and that "OC slavefic" might be mistakable, not only for fic involving Seth Cohen as a slave to Marissa Cooper, but for fanfiction that involves an original character, like my Wonder Girl fic with Ian, not original fiction altogether.

Also, it was sort of a run-off between votes for various types of moderation and for no moderation at all-- that is, no moderation won, but not by more than votes for the various types of moderation combined. I'm not putting that very well, but hopefully you see what I mean. But of the types of moderation, moderated posting seemed to be the favorite. Bear in mind that whatever we do can be changed later if it starts causing trouble.

So!

[Poll #1179699]

After it looks like most people who've been voting all along have voted here, I will probably go ahead and create the community and start drafting userinfo and community guidelines. Please, please keep the chatter and thoughts and discussion of what we want out of this community coming! I haven't had a chance to respond to comments on the last entry, but I've been reading them very intently, and I love how enthusiastic and creative people are being. I'm really excited about having a community of our own where we can all get to know each other better and share the original slavefic love.

Also, speaking of not having a chance to do everything I'd like to, any intrepid souls out there want to volunteer to be my hired goons loyal henchpeople community co-mods?

So as of this writing, just sixteen hours after pitching the idea, we have, unless I miscount, 33 takers for the idea of an original slavefic community. I believe that's enough, in the absence of strong objection, for me to go ahead and create it. Huzzah! I'm especially squeeful about the 13 people who marked the "and if there were, maybe I'd write something" box!

Though before we go any further, a clarification which I posted in response to an objection from [livejournal.com profile] tuawahine: This community would in no way be in competition with [livejournal.com profile] slavefics. The goal would not be to have people posting to the new community INSTEAD of [livejournal.com profile] slavefics, or for [livejournal.com profile] slavefics to become the "fanfiction only" slavefic community. What I was envisioning was more like how somebody who wrote a Wincest slave fic could post it both to a Wincest fan community and to [livejournal.com profile] slavefics; just so, someone could post their original slave fic to the new community, plus [livejournal.com profile] slavefics, [livejournal.com profile] powerfic, and, like, a cowboy comm, if the fic had cowboys in it.

The thing is, I feel like we don't see a lot of original fic over at [livejournal.com profile] slavefics anyway at the moment, which I feel is at least partially because there's less of a perceived audience for it. My hope would be that this community would get people posting it online at all, and then they would post it at [livejournal.com profile] slavefics, too, so it would still all-- fanfic and original fic-- be findable in one place. There'd just be more of it.

(Did I mention [livejournal.com profile] slavefics [livejournal.com profile] slavefics [livejournal.com profile] slavefics? Great community, [livejournal.com profile] slavefics.)

OK. So unfortunately, "originalslavefic" has too many characters to be the user handle. (You can have 15.) So I looked "original" up on thesaurus.com, but unfortunately most of the synonyms are even longer, or don't really fit. (I was amused that one of the synonyms listed was "master," as in "master copy." master_slavefic?) I did kind of like the vaguely nerdy vibe of slavefic_prime; then again, we could always go for something obvious like nonfenslavefic (though I hate to put un- or non- in the name, it sounds so negative). Original_kink fits, but I dunno, it's kind of broad. Originalslavery, maybe, but it doesn't have the writing thing in the name...

Also, I was looking at the community creation options, and aside from the fact that I am definitely marking us Explicit Adult Content... oh, here, have another poll.

Friends, perverts, angst enthusiasts! Lend me your ears! Just for a sec. Thanks very much.

So there is the [livejournal.com profile] slavefics community on LJ, of course, which is very near and dear to my heart. Finding it was what inspired me to post on the big scary internet at all, and I originally posted the entirety of Bran to [livejournal.com profile] slavefics, and I got tons of lovely feedback that encouraged me to post more and more and more and oh god will Lee ever come to an end probably not. And I've found all kinds of great stuff through [livejournal.com profile] slavefics. It's a fantastic resource.

However, I've been pondering lately. I've had several people tell me that reading my stuff inspired them to write and/or post their own, original (non-fandom) slave fic. Now, I love this, because I love reading original slavefic. I've also noticed that a lot of those of us who write it have been sharing readers, who read our comments and follow links and find new stuff they like. So: I've been pondering possibly creating a community solely for writers of original slave fic. It would most likely be a very small community at this point, but the hope would be that If We Build It, They Will Come-- i.e. that in the same way people have apparently read my stuff, gone "Hey! What a great idea!" and proceeded to upturn an endless cornucopia of gorgeous original slavefic upon the internet, yet more people will go, "Huh! A community for THAT? Hey, I totally have an idea for that!" and the internet will be deluged with original slavefic and we shall all dance laughing like maenads, with our hands upheld to the life-giving rain of kink. And stuff.

What I'd like to see on this hypothetical "original_slavefic" (or whatever) community:

-original slavefic (including serial-numbers-filed-off slavefic that was originally written as AU fanfic or whatever-- as long as it still makes sense when you change the names from Harry and Severus to Quentin and Joe Bob, it's cool)
-requests and plot bunnies from people who like to read original slavefic and have great ideas but no time/perceived skill to write
-recommendations for original slavefic found elsewhere on the internet so we can all go and praise it and get the writers to write more
-support, reviews, and (if requested) constructive criticism and beta-ing for our fellow community members

We can be pretty flexible on a definition of slavery-- like, consensual real-life-style M/s should be fine, and fics like 42 where there's no actual slavery but the structure clearly follows the same format as your typical slavefic. (Although that one's a fanfic. But you get me.) Also, it would probably be moderated membership, to make sure people really write original slavefic (or a reasonable facsimile-- see above), and to make sure we maintain a reasonable standard of readability and general decency, to be arbitrarily* determined by yours truly.

[Poll #1178599]

*Not really arbitrarily, but I do reserve the right to not have things that are totally incomprehensible to me and/or totally gross me out posted to any community that I start and maintain.

I've just been made aware that gentle reader [livejournal.com profile] thirdsouthobbi has her own original slavefic, "Blake," in progress at [livejournal.com profile] lockedncaged. I thought I'd mention it here as I think there should be considerable overlap between those who enjoy The Slave Breakers and those who would enjoy Blake. Personally I really love finding original (non-fandom-affiliated) slavefic online-- I hardly ever read fanfic if I'm not familiar with the source material, and if I am, it's always kind of weird trying to fit the slavefic tropes into the familiar source material, and there's all these issues of OOC and AU, and half the time I'm just going, um, your story would be really good and hot and awesome if you would just change the names and make it an original fic.

Not always, of course. [livejournal.com profile] lit_gal's Whedonverse slavefic springs to mind as something that really wouldn't work as well in any other 'verse, and there's lots else out there that's good as fanfic and does cool things with established canon and character-- but especially when you've got General Quigonus Maximus boffing a fifteen-year-old barbarian slave named Obiwanides in ancient Rome, or underage-vassal Fox Fitzmulder marrying Lady Dana of the Right Honorable House of Scully, or something, it's like, dude, I love your writing, love the setting, love the slavery, but just make it original historical fiction already.

Maybe that's just me.

(Conversely, nobody ever writes the classical Roman fanfic I do want to see. If anybody will write me Petronius Arbiter/Nero, specifically the ones from Quo Vadis, I will clean your house.)

But I'm also aware it can be a lot harder to build a readership with original stuff, so if you're interested, do mosey on over to [livejournal.com profile] lockedncaged and check out Blake. And while you're in the original-slavefic groove, the marvelously prolific [livejournal.com profile] morgan_cian has put together a handy little index page for Triumvirate and Black Rising-- which I'm in the (very slow, because real life recently jumped me from behind and left me for dead in a dark alleyway, and also, I suck; sorry, Amy) process of betaing for her, and is also posting another original slavefic called Texas.

Me, I'm working on chapter sixteen of Lee, and I also have a few one-offs on the back burner, and I got a paid account for my birthday, so have a small poll!
